I am against changes… always have been, always will be. BUT… There comes a time when change is necessary and GPMCC has passed that mark.
I love my website the way it is but is becoming difficult to maintain, does not conform to cell phone adaptability, and difficult to find in search engines.
Bottom line: Change is necessary, and mandatory.
To that end I am creating a new website for GPMCC. I am removing the static HTML site and replacing it with a WordPress site. One I am designing now. My self-imposed launch date is the beginning of January 2026. I have a long way to go, a lot of learning to, well, learn. Still, I am getting there.
I was using Desktop Server to create my test websites but the owners of the program gave it up and there are no updates available. And that has driven me nuts for a long time until now. I found a new program which will do the same thing as Desktop server and it is up-to-date with the latest php and other security features. I can actually get a test site up and running. The name of this program is LOCAL. Simple but it works. I downloaded and installed the free side of the house and so far it is working as I hoped it would. The program can be found here: Local – Local WordPress development made simple
I had doubts, a lot of them, and I still have doubts about some areas. Yet the program is convincing me that it is a very suitable program to create a WordPress test site with. Hence, I am recommending it. However, you have to judge for yourself if this program is right for you. Your needs are different from mine.
A while back I purchased a set of themes from Superb Themes, and I paid a lot of money for it. I am happy with them, but find the learning curve on some themes to be daunting and intimidating. Still, I am happy with the purchase and cannot complain. If you are thinking of buying a theme, you might investigate and consider Superb Themes. I purchased a lifetime license, so I don’t have to worry about subscriptions, which I hate with a passion.
The design of my new website is daunting. It is said the Block Editor is simple to use and can make your website look and feel the way you want it to be. That may be true for youngsters but us old farts, it ain’t so easy. Sometimes I let my stubbornest get in the way. Let me be clear: It is always in the way. A fact I find most perplexing. A trait I am always fighting. Yet I am winning. Slow, but winning.
The Block Editor, for me, is not easy to use. Sometimes it is very confusing, and for every step forward, I take five steps back. Frustrating to say the least. But if I want to meet my deadline, I have to push on and make it happen.
This is my last post for this year. I surprised myself, I managed two, count ’em, two post for the entire year. I think that is a record. Another reason I need to update my website.
This Quick Blog will likely stay the same, but my main blog is going to change. It has to. The 2010 theme I am using is not cutting it anymore. This makes it hard for me as I really like the 2010 theme. Still, it is time to change and move on.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
Today is Thanksgiving 2025 and I write this to bring you up to date and tell you my immediate plans. A new website, a new Main Blog environment. All coming in 2026.
But for now, I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and many blessings that Divine Providence has bestow upon us.
G.
P.S. The new website is going to focus on Accountability… All I’m gonna say for now.
